Here are some tips and tricks to save you and your web designer time
and money.
- 1. Make a pencil drawing of each page you want to have
built, even if you are not an artist, to provide
some type of glimpse to the desiner of what you want. Let him or her
see the sketchs.
- 2. If you cannot draw or even if you can, search the
web for graphics you like or that are similar in content as to what you are looking
for.
- 3. If you are really serious about a "logo for
trademark" plan
on spending money to have various concepts drafted and then once you have the exact
one you are looking for have an attorney get your copyright or trademark. Just
an idea...
- 4. List the URL aka web site address of sites that you
like and tell us or your designer what you like about them. The ole idiom that " a
picture is worth a thousand words" is true. Break out the stop watch and
starting counting your words and see how l o n g
i t t a k
e s to g e t
o u t o n e t
h o u s a n d w or d s.
- 5. Understand that designers cannot climb up into your
head and see "your dream site"
so we need your help.
- 6. Understand that if you want lots of graphics, flash,
media, shopping cart, mapping or programming functions then the once simple
economical pricing no longer applies.
- 7. Finally, making changes to and maintaining such
a site will cost plenty. Hourly rates for changes vary. If your site
requires regular servicing then you need to be up front about what kinds of service
you will need. If your
changes are rare it can also take time to review the site concept, re-design graphics
and implement the changes. The larger the site the more review time required
to make the required changes, test links and other fun stuff.
It involves more that just clicking on a few items and "presto" so
even the slighest changes can run into many hours of work for the designer.
